I never ATE a scone, let alone bake one. Shocking, right? Scones werent something i've ever wanted to eat. Don't ask me why... i'll grab a bagel or a muffin before i grab a scone. What is a scone? According to
wikipedia, "The scone is a small British quickbread (or cake if recipe includes sugar) of possible Scottish origin." And here I thought it was a cookie! Anyway, this week's recipe was chosen by Robin of
Lady Craddock's Bakery and the recipe can be found
here.
The batter came together very quickly. I added the zest of a large orange then I was going to add chocolate chips but i totally forgot all about them. I sprinkled some raw sugar on them before baking.

These were very easy to make but tasted just
OK to me.... nothing really spectacular. I wish i hadn't forgetten the chocolate chips.

I've only baked (and eaten) one batch of scones in my lifetime thus far - I agree, nothing super special.
Definitely try them again though with the chocolate! :)
This was my first time baking scones and it's been on my list if things to do. They were okay to me as well.
You have never ate a scone..wow! I kinda wish I hadn't..I love scones and have to work out extra hard to burn them off!
This recipe was amazing and what a great one for your first scone experience! Your scones look divine!
Your scones look so pretty. If you plan on making them again, definitely try the chocolate. It's super yummy.
Too bad these didn't wow you... I love scones, and I thought these were really yummy.
I think scones are always best split in two with lovely red jam and clotted or whipped cream on top. My favourite recipe is for lemonade scones - http://www.sugar.co.nz/ViewRecipe.aspx?id=558
I wish I had done chocolate chips, too. Chocolate and orange go so well together!
Sorry you weren't crazy about these. I thought they were divine. I think adding chocolate would have been great. Thought about it myself. :)
I had never made scones before either (and I think eaten them only rarely). I'm sorry this recipe didn't make you a convert! It does look very nice, though.
Your scones look great. Mine tasted just OK too after my first attempt. I made a few changes and that took them over the top.
I'm so sad to hear they were just OK! I added extra glaze to mine and they were awesome.
They look great! Having grown up with scones, I think some people's disappointment in them is due to eating scones plain - as one of my friends said (whilst eating my inedible version!) they're just a vehicle for butter, cream and jam anyway!! So I can totally understand why an unadorned scone could be less than inspiring x
Scones are amazing! They make me proud to be British ;)
I added chocolate chips to mine and they really made the recipe pop!

I sort of agree with you, Karen. Scones never appealed to me.
Thanks for baking along with me this week even if you weren't fond of them. Your scomes do look good and maybe with chocolate chips they would be to your liking.
Sorry they didn't work out so well for you, they look perfect. I added a little extra sugar do my batter, I recommend it if you try these again.
Your scones look great! Too bad they weren't a favorite of yours. It was my first time making scones too. I liked them a lot.
never had a scone? shocking! sounds like you'll be sticking with bagels though.
I'd never had a scone either until I got really into baking a few years ago. They're still not my go-to breakfast choice but I've found a few that I really enjoy. Yours look fantastic! I tried to add frozen blueberries and wound up with blue scones :)
