I've made red velvet a number of times and my favorite recipe is Bobby Flay's. So how did Melissa's compare to Bobby's? Melissa's was just ok... a cake with a slight chocolate flavor. I upped the cinnamon and it didnt matter. Sorry, Melissa -- this wasnt one of of my favorite recipes.

Looks like I need to try Bobby Flay's recipe, I do like a good Red Velvet cupcake! Yours do look delicious.
I'm not a big Red Velvet person, prefer chocolate cake straight, but I might have to try Bobby's recipe. I do love your photo. :)
I didn't love this one either. This is my first time baking red velvet, I may have try Bobby's recipe.
I made cupcakes too. Yours look very nice! Sorry it wasn't a favortie for you...I guess we can't love them all;)
I'm sorry you didn't like them. The weren't the best red velvet I've ever had either. I'm going to try Bobby Flay'y now, though! Red velvet is my FAVORITE!!!!
Well I'm glad you got a chance to make them Karen, but too bad they weren't a hit. Great photo - they look wonderful. I've only made red velvet once or maybe twice before so I didn't have much basis for comparison. Thanks for mentioning Bobby's recipe, I'll check it out!
=[ that they weren't a hit. Maybe it was just the recipe. The cinnamon didn't seem like a traditional addition, but I think that it was good regardless. I made some of mine blue, so I think that the color also affects people's tastes.
I'm so sorry you didn't like this recipe! I must check out Bobby Flay's recipe. They look so cute though. Thank you for baking with me this week! R x
It wasn't my favorite either. But then again, my favorite has been the apple orchard crumble (I'm partial to baked apples) so my vote may not count. They do look splendid though :)
I wasn't a huge fan either, but the people at work went wild. Now I want to try Bobby Flay's!
i haven't had a lot of red velvet cakes but i liked this one. your frosting looks great, not lumpy like mine :(
Your cupcakes look great! The only other red velvet cake recipe I've tried is the Magnolia one; I'll have to check out Bobby Flay's. I enjoyed Melissa's, though.
Gorgeous! Adorable! Love them! I agree, Melissa's recipe was not the best red velvet I have made but I have yet to try Bobby Flays so now my curiosity is peeked. =)
I totally agree, they weren't through the moon so to speak! Ill have to look up Bobby Flay's - is that the one he did on Throw Down?
ces cup cakes sont magnifiques et ils doivent être divins, bravo
à bientôt
At least the picture is great :)
Your cupcakes look great! These were the first I've ever made or tasted and I thought they were good. I'll have to try Bobby Flay's.
Great review! They are really pretty, I will have to try Bobby Flay's!
Hi Karen,
Found your blog while looking through recipes on Foodista- great great stuff! I just made coconut cupcakes today- thinking I should bookmark these too!
I think we all made cupcakes! Sometimes, you just can't muster the energy to make a layer cake! My favorite red velvet recipe is from Southern Cakes by Nancie McDermott. It is amazing.
